Trek Overview:

The Warwan Valley Trek is one of the most dramatic cross-over treks in India, connecting the stark landscape of Zanskar with the lush, untouched meadows of Kashmir. This trail takes you through alpine lakes, remote glacial valleys, massive meadows, and ancient Himalayan villages. Traversing the Lomvilad Pass (14,495 ft), you walk across a glacier, over steep moraines, and into the mystical Warwan Valley, dotted with wooden homes and wild rivers.

This is not just a trek, but a journey through contrasting landscapes, cultures, and a true Himalayan wilderness.

 

Day 1: Drive from Srinagar to Panikhar (10,700 ft)

  • Distance: 185 km | Duration: 10 hrs
  • Pick-up Point: Sheikh Feroze Tours & Travels, Sathu, Barbara Shah Chowk, Srinagar
  • Pick-up Time: 5:00 AM
  • Highlights: Drive through the scenic valleys of Sonamarg and Drass. Catch views of Nun-Kun peaks. Overnight in tents at Panikhar.
  • Note: Reach the pick-up point on Day 0 by 5 PM to collect rental gear and submit items for the cloakroom.

 

Day 2: Trek from Panikhar to Denora (12,375 ft)

  • Distance: 14 km | Duration: 8 hrs
  • Grade: Moderate
  • Highlights: Continuous gentle ascent alongside a roaring river, crossing into the delta region through a small river. First night under the stars in the alpine wilderness.

 

Day 3: Trek from Denora to Kalapari (12,850 ft)

  • Distance: 2 km | Duration: 2.5-3 hrs
  • Grade: Easy-Moderate
  • Highlights: Several stream crossings, easy walking, and a spectacular acclimatisation hike to a glacial lake. Views of snow-capped peaks begin to dominate the horizon.

 

Day 4: Trek from Kalapari to Kaintal via Lomvilad Pass (14,495 ft)

  • Distance: 22 km | Duration: 13-14 hrs
  • Grade: Difficult
  • Highlights: This is the big day! Begin with an alpine lake, followed by a glacier walk, steep ascent to Lomvilad Pass with panoramic views, and a thrilling descent down a series of switchbacks. Traverse the Bracken glacier and trek through rugged moraines into the vast green meadows of Kaintal.

 

Day 5: Trek from Kaintal to Humpet (11,120 ft)

  • Distance: 17 km | Duration: 7-8 hrs
  • Grade: Moderate-Difficult
  • Highlights: Walk through the heavenly Warwan meadows, cross pristine rivers, and climb gentle slopes. The landscape shifts to wildflower-covered hills and serene forest bends.

 

Day 6: Trek from Humpet to Sukhnai (9,320 ft)

  • Distance: 15 km | Duration: 7-8 hrs
  • Grade: Moderate-Difficult
  • Highlights: The trail alternates between climbs and steep descents with breathtaking views. Walk along trails that skirt landslide-prone areas, past cascading streams and into forested valleys.

 

Day 7: Trek from Sukhnai to Basmina (5,200 ft) and Drive to Srinagar

  • Distance: 14.5 km (Trek) | Trek Duration: 6-7 hrs
  • Drive: 7-8 hrs to Srinagar
  • Highlights: Gentle undulating trail through picturesque villages. Catch a last glimpse of the valley life before you drive back to Srinagar, reaching by 8–9 PM.
